Editor’s Note

The watchword this time is elegance. All fourteen sonnets in Issue 11 have been selected from our open submission process with “blind” assessment. We have six new authors in this Issue: Heidi Czerwiec, Gail DiMaggio, Mitchell Geller, James B. Nicola, J. D. Smith, and Gale Tanner. A warm welcome to them, as well as to the eight returning authors. Several of the latter have multiple past 14 by 14 credits, but again Catherine Chandler has managed to maintain an unbroken record, a sonnet in every issue, now 11 of 11!

Regarding the foreshadowed changes, the precise mechanism and new design for the site have still to be worked out in detail, but 14 by 14 will move away from periodic issue format and have new content added to the front page at irregular intervals, blog-style more or less. I expect to give some attention to matters like RSS feeds and social networking links. There may also be more emphasis on media. Content will change more frequently, and authors who submit work (from mid-January) will usually get a faster response. All this can be seen as making the site more up to date and dynamic (a webzine doesn't have to mimic print periodicals, after all) and is likely to start in March. The existing 11 issues will remain archived on the site.

We are having a submissions holiday now until around mid-January. Look in then for an update if you are interested in submitting.

Please feel free to share your thoughts. Contact sonnets@14by14.com — but no submissions for the present.
